Its complex undertones offer versatility beyond the expected liquorice facet, adding depth to aromatic Fougères and even floral compositions. This is a cornerstone spice material. While both Star Anise oil ( Illicium verum ) and Anise oil ( Pimpinella anisum ) share a dominant sweet, liquorice-like aroma from trans -anethole, Star Anise is botanically distinct, often stronger, woodier, and contains IFRA regulated estragole (also found in tarragon oil), unlike Anise.
