Patchouli Oil MD (50% patchoulol) opens with a rich, earthy aroma that is unmistakably green and slightly sweet, reminiscent of damp forest floor and dark, woody undertones. As it develops, the scent deepens into a more complex, balsamic character, revealing hints of chocolate and spice that add warmth and depth. This material is a staple in many compositions, providing a solid base that enhances longevity and richness without overpowering other notes. It pairs well with florals, especially rose and jasmine, as well as with citrus notes that can brighten its darker facets. Typically used at doses ranging from 0.446% to 6.60%, it often finds its sweet spot around 2.400%.
