Its character is intensely smoky and phenolic — charred hardwood, bacon, bonfire — but with a sweet, powdery, almost vanillic warmth underneath that keeps it from turning medicinal. Where guaiacol (its single-methoxy relative) can feel harsh and cough-syrup-like, syringol stays rounded and balsamic. That sweetness makes it far more versatile than raw phenolic smoke materials.
