Bicyclononalactone is a creamy and sweet lactone but with a distinctly tonka and hay character. Its has a subtle earthiness that makes it far more interesting than many of the other lactones that tend to be variations on a theme of coconut or peach. Use it as an interesting alternative to Coumarin in a classic fougère and as a replacer for Dihydrocoumarin which is prohibited in many places except when naturally occurring in plant extracts. Bicyclononalactone is used to great effect in such scents as Ambre Narguile (2004) by Hermès where it is found at an enormous 4% and Grand Soir (2016) of Maison Francis Kurkdjian at a more reasonable 1.5%. — Fraterworks
