BASF, founded in 1865 as a dye maker, has come to produce some of the best aroma chemicals. Boasting high purities and a quality much appreciated by perfumers, they are the top of the class in many instances. Citronellol, a key component of rose and geranium, is often viewed as a fairly uninteresting and standard material which seldom receives the scrutiny it should when selecting raw materials.
