Eugenol has the most entrancing and familiar scent of clovebuds, bringing to mind delicious roasted meats, spiced cakes and puddings at Christmas and, perhaps less pleasingly, dental visits! The earliest production of Eugenol for the fragrance industry was exclusively as an extract from cloves. In those earliest times, different fragrance houses had different qualities of eugenol and great care went in to selecting the finest.
