Geosmin is the chemical responsible for the smell of freshly turned soil and spring rain. It is one of the most powerful chemicals in nature and it is familiar to everyone, often eliciting shouts of glee from non-perfumers who thrill at the ability of a perfumer to bottle such a beloved smell. In addition to pure, it is offered here diluted to 10% and 1% in DPG but is still very powerful; it is often used at 0.1% or even 0.01% in fragrances and blends. Traces add a natural earthiness and inimitable quality to patchouli or vetiver scents, while a very careful overdose gives interesting effects. Geosmin is a radiant and adds power and diffusion to any fragrance. — Fraterworks
