Standard grapefruit oil is almost entirely limonene — pleasant but generic. This 5-fold version is still mostly limonene, but vacuum distillation has concentrated everything else roughly fivefold. Those trace compounds are what make grapefruit smell like grapefruit, and now they come through with real authority. With the character compounds amplified, you get the woody-bitter quality that links grapefruit to vetiver, the bright aldehydic sparkle, and the subtle sulphurous-tropical facet that gives grapefruit its identity.
