Exaltenone® is one of the classic synthetic musks, valued for its ability to enhance the diffusion, depth, and longevity of a fragrance. Some perfumers even consider it superior to muscone (and muscone laevo), the natural musk ketone found in deer musk. Traces are all you need to get a real boost but this can be an overdose musk. To compare this product (which is usually liquid at room temperature but can solidify) and the very similarly named Exaltone [ Cyclopentadecanone ] we can say that E xaltone is more powdery, natural, and elegant with a focus on fixative strength, whereas Exaltenone is more powerful, opaque, and animalic, offering a creamier and robust musk note.
