Leverage Star Anise for its remarkable ability to impart immediate character and warmth, bridging top and middle phases effectively. Its complex undertones offer versatility beyond the expected liquorice facet, adding depth to aromatic Fougères and even floral compositions. This is a cornerstone spice material. While both Star Anise oil ( Illicium verum ) and Anise oil ( Pimpinella anisum ) share a dominant sweet, liquorice-like aroma from trans -anethole, Star Anise is botanically distinct, often stronger, woodier, and contains IFRA regulated estragole (also found in tarragon oil), unlike Anise.
